Regular, in-depth Dugas: In the ceremonial context of the Dugas, problems and diseases, their burdensome energies, the warm feelings they trigger in the members are recognized and neutralized, and traditional knowledge is passed on. This ritual is a spiritual technique from the Colombian Amazon that is thousands of years old. The sacred tobacco plant is consumed in the form of a viscous tobacco honey (Ambil in Spanish, called Yera in Huitoto). Yera is made by boiling organic tobacco leaves and thickening the resulting juice. It is then mixed with vegetable salts (similar to potash). The plant salts filter the harmful substances in the tobacco, so that its entheogenic power comes into effect: intuition, balance, benevolence and an increased ability to communicate through deeper thinking are promoted. Tobacco releases greater amounts of neurotransmitters, which bring about centering and neurophysiological integration. Tobacco in Huitoto is called Diona (Di = blood; o = you; na = essence), indicating why this plant is considered sacred by Native American tribes.
